Canonical Disease Search (MONDO Ontology)

The Problem

Diseases are recorded in clinical trial data under many different names. A search for "NSCLC" misses trials that spell it "Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer" or "Lung Carcinoma, Non-Small Cell". A search for "Lung Cancer" misses all of its subtypes entirely. Teams waste hours building regex workarounds — or, worse, quietly miss relevant trials.

The Solution

ClinicaLister integrates the Monarch Disease Ontology (MONDO) — a structured, community-maintained disease vocabulary containing 33,700+ canonical terms, 111,600+ synonyms and aliases, and a full hierarchy of every disease-subtype relationship. When you type a disease into the query builder, the autocomplete returns canonical MONDO terms with every alias collapsed into one entry — and lets you expand your search to cover the entire subtree in a single click.
