How the 50+ interactive charts work, the chart types you'll see (with examples), and a full catalog with the calculation behind each.

Charts are controls, not just pictures

The Follow-Up Dashboard turns your portfolio into more than 50 interactive charts. Every chart is built from the trials currently in view, and clicking a chart filters the whole dashboard. As you click, charts recalculate so each one always reflects the current selection.

Each chart counts or sums the trials in your portfolio grouped by some attribute — for example "number of trials per phase" or "total spending per drug".
Click a bar, slice, cell, or bubble to filter every other chart (and the table and map) to that value.
Selections stack across charts, so you can isolate a precise slice (e.g. Phase 3 + Recruiting + one sponsor).
Click the same element again, or use Clear Filters, to remove a selection.

Chart tools

Common controls available on the dashboard and on individual charts:

Info (ⓘ) — every chart has an info button that explains, in plain language, exactly what it counts, which data it draws on, and what clicking does. The catalog below mirrors that text.
Chart search bar — search by chart title ("Patent Cliff") or by a data value (a drug, sponsor, condition, or country); picking a suggestion filters the dashboard to it.
Maximize — expand any chart full-screen to see all items (charts show a top-N by default and the rest when maximized).
Export — copy a chart's data (with percentages) to the clipboard, or copy the chart as an image for slides.
Hide / show — hide charts you don't need; a bar at the top lets you restore them.
Some charts add their own toggles, such as a date-field selector or a label/colour toggle.

Note: Many drug, device, safety, and financial charts only appear when your portfolio has the relevant linked data. If nothing matches, the chart hides itself rather than showing an empty frame.

How the numbers are computed

Every chart is a live count or sum over the trials currently in view — nothing is pre-baked. Two patterns cover almost all of them:

Count of trials grouped by an attribute (status, phase, sponsor, condition…). A trial that has several values for an attribute (two phases, sites in three countries) is counted once per value, so percentages can add up to more than 100%.
Sum or rank of a linked measure (spending, patents, adverse events…). These match your trials to the relevant FDA / EMA / CMS public records through the drugs and devices linked to each trial.
Because a trial can be linked to several drugs or devices, the same trial can contribute to more than one drug or device row.
Each catalog table below states, per chart, both what it shows and how it's calculated (which data it draws on and how it's grouped or scored).

Chart types you'll see

ClinicaLister uses a handful of chart types. Here's what each looks like and when it's used. (Examples below use sample numbers.)

Pie / donut

Shows how a whole splits into parts — the most common type, used for status, study type, phases, ages, regions, drug source, dosage form, device class, submission type, roles, validation status, MRI safety, and more. Each slice is a category; its size is the share of the portfolio. Click a slice to filter.

Vertical bar

Compares counts across categories or over time — top conditions, facilities and sponsors, drug & device names, the patent-cliff and approval-lag timelines, and designation activity. Click a bar to filter.

Horizontal bar

Used when items have long names or there are many to rank — pharmacologic class, approval status, spending (Part D, Open Payments, ASP), NADAC cost, loss of exclusivity, comparator threats, molecule saturation, top diseases, and supply-chain geography. Click a bar to filter.

Area (trend)

One chart, Trial Start Activity, uses a filled area to plot how many of your trials started each year. Hover for a year's value. It's read-only — it shows a trend rather than acting as a filter.

Matrix, heatmap & data grid

The Pipeline Matrix cross-tabulates top sponsors (rows) against phases (columns); each cell counts trials and a darker cell means more. Click a cell to filter by that sponsor and phase together, or a row/column header to filter by just one. The Patent Cliff & Spend chart is a related heatmap that pairs patent-expiry timing with spend, and a data-grid layout (Molecular Properties) lists per-item values rather than a single number.

Scatter / bubble

Plots items on two axes, with bubble size adding a third measure — Countries Distribution, and the drug and device safety-signal plots (PRR vs ROR). Click a bubble to filter to it.

Stat & alert cards

Some signals are shown as a short alert list rather than a chart — drug shortages, boxed warnings, and device recalls. Each entry is clickable to filter to that drug or device, and is colour-coded by seriousness.

Trial metadata charts

The core view of your portfolio — who, what, where, and when. All counts are over the trials currently in view.

Study Type	Pie	Interventional vs Observational vs Expanded Access, from each trial's design.

Ages	Pie	Eligible age groups (Child 0–17, Adult 18–64, Older Adult 65+); a trial can span several.

Last Update	Vertical bar	Trials grouped by the month they last posted an update — spot active vs stale trials.

MONDO disease charts

Your trials' conditions mapped to standardized disease terms (the MONDO disease ontology).

MONDO Top Diseases	Grouped horizontal bar	Per disease: "Following" = how many of your trials map to that disease term; "Total linked" = all trials for the term across the whole database. Click to filter your portfolio to the disease.
MONDO Rare vs Non-rare	Pie	Your distinct diseases split by whether each is flagged a rare disease.
MONDO Disease Match Method	Pie	How each trial's condition was matched to a standard disease term — exact name, alias, or AI-inferred — a rough indicator of mapping confidence.

Built from the FDA/EMA drugs and FDA devices linked to your trials.

NADAC Cost by Dosage Form	Horizontal bar	Average drug acquisition cost (the Medicaid NADAC benchmark) per unit, grouped by form, for the latest period.
Drug Signal Detection (PRR/ROR)	Scatter + table	A safety-signal calculation: for each drug it builds a 2×2 table of how often a serious adverse event appears in trials with that drug vs all other trials, then plots the disproportionality (PRR on the x-axis, ROR on the y-axis). Points are flagged significant by a chi-squared test (p < 0.05); bigger points = more trials. Drawn from trial adverse-event data.
Device Signal Detection (PRR/ROR)	Scatter + table	The same disproportionality method applied to device adverse-event reports.

Spending, pricing, and patent economics for the drugs and devices in your portfolio.

Patent Cliff Timeline	Vertical bar	Counts drug patents expiring per year (this year → +10), from each drug's patent records, coloured by urgency.
Loss of Exclusivity	Horizontal bar	Drugs whose market exclusivity ends within 24 months, in <6 / 6–12 / 12–24-month buckets.
Patent Cliff & Spend	Heatmap	Pairs each drug's exclusivity-expiry year with its spending (bubble size = linked trials) to flag high-spend drugs facing near-term generic competition.
Device Recalls	Alert card	Recent FDA recalls for your devices, grouped by recall class.
